Book Description

On an icy winter’s day in southwest Michigan, Grace Abbott wakes up as the survivor of a car crash. But she’s left with a traumatic brain injury and a terrifying reality: she can’t remember anything.

Left in the care of her sister, Grace returns to the family’s secluded old farmhouse to recover—but within an hour of her return, the police arrive. Grace’s boyfriend has been murdered. Without any memory, Grace has no alibi.

With suspicion weighing heavily on her and flashes of memory returning, Grace searches for clues to her past. But with every glimpse, her anxiety grows. There is something about the house, her family, her childhood…perhaps the accident isn’t the only reason she can’t remember. Are the dark recesses of her mind hiding something even more sinister and terrifying than she could ever imagine?

Is someone willing to kill again to hide the truth?

The suspense in this book is what keeps you turning the pages. You get sucked in from the very beginning with characters that seem so real. You feel like you know them personally. The book comes alive and you start really absorbing the story line and trying to decide the unpredictable ending.
The summary at the beginning of the book is very misleading. The start of the book itself is slow and common. You have to keep reading to see how it grabs your attention. Parts of the book are pretty cliche and echo other books. The story line flows very well.
This is a book that will have you thinking about it long after you put it down. The way that it draws you and then keeps you reading is almost an artform in itself. The characters seem like real people with problems and emotions that you can relate to. The story really is unpredictable, even if you are trying to figure it from the start. There are so many false clues and information that it leaves you guessing about what is real and what is not. It is a very well written book. The pace of the book is perfectly set so that you want to keep reading until you find out the ending. The villian is so real that you could imagine running into a real person like that in your own life. In some ways, this book takes your fears and concerns and projects them into a very well told story line. It makes you wonder what you would do in that same situation. There is no part of the book or the story that will leave you disappointed. After finishing this book you are left wondering what comes next, for you and the characters.
