I am a creative writer that has a unique point of view on everything. My opinion may not be the same as yours but that's what keeps everything interesting. How boring the world would be if we were all the same.

Book Description

Learn the secrets to maximizing your Social Security benefits and earn up to thousands of dollars more each year with expert advice that you can’t get anywhere else.

Want to know how to navigate the forbidding maze of Social Security and emerge with the highest possible benefits? You could try reading all 2,728 rules of the Social Security system (and the thousands of explanations of these rules), but Kotlikoff, Moeller, and Solman explain Social Security benefits in an easy to understand and user-friendly style. What you don’t know can seriously hurt you: wrong decisions about which Social Security benefits to apply for cost some individual retirees tens of thousands of dollars in lost income every year.

How many retirees or those nearing retirement know about such Social Security options as file and suspend (apply for benefits and then don’t take them)? Or start stop start (start benefits, stop them, then re-start them)? Or—just as important—when and how to use these techniques? Get What’s Yours covers the most frequent benefit scenarios faced by married retired couples, by divorced retirees, by widows and widowers, among others. It explains what to do if you’re a retired parent of dependent children, disabled, or an eligible beneficiary who continues to work, and how to plan wisely before retirement. It addresses the tax consequences of your choices, as well as the financial implications for other investments.

Many personal finance books briefly address Social Security, but none offers the thorough, authoritative, yet conversational analysis found here. You’ve paid all your working life for these benefits. Now, get what’s yours.

Pros
This is a book that is meant to help you get through the process of applying for social security benefits. The overall theme of the book is to teach you that just because they say something it doesn't mean they are always right.
Cons
The book is very long winded and hard to read. It says the same things over and over. The book does not teach you anything new, most of it is common knowledge. The people that will benefit from it are the ones that are 70 or over and married couples.
Summary
Overall this book is not the best guide to dealing with social security. It is very difficult to read and is boring. It does not teach you anything, brings up points that are common knowledge, and could probably be edited down to about 50 pages. It is not meant for everyone, but if you already have the basic knowledge of how the social security works then it is a good handbook for continued reading. You will not find yourself rereading it or going to it often for advice like you might with other books. Once you read it you are pretty much done with the book and can pass it on to someone else. It is suggested that you either read another guide before this and use this book for a follow-up guide or find another book to help to go into depth with this book. It is a good read if you are 70 or a married couple because it will help you with loopholes, but other than that you may find that it does not apply to you or your situation.
