Book Description

New York Times bestselling author William R. Forstchen brings a sequel to his hit novel One Second After. Months before publication, One Second After was cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read, a book discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a truly realistic look at the dangers of EMPs. An EMP is a weapon with the power to destroy the entire United States in a single act of terrorism, in a single second; indeed, it is a weapon that the Wall Street Journal warns could shatter America. One Second After was a dire warning of what might be our future…and our end. Now, One Year After returns to the small town of Black Mountain, and the man who struggled so hard to rebuild it in the wake of devastation-John Matherson. It is a thrilling follow-up and should delight fans in every way.

The greatest asset of this book is the author's ability to make the characters seem like real people instead of just characters in a book. That alone makes you want to see what happens to them and sets the tone for the rest of the story.
This is the second in the book line. It lacks creativity and does not extend the story. It has a lot of fight scenes. If it was a movie it would be one fight after another. If you are into the doomsday stories than it is a book for you, otherwise you are not missing much if you do not read it.
The storyline continues from the first book of the series. It does not really add to the book. There are a lot of battles, which is expected since it is the end of the world and that is how people would react. This story is highly likely to cause doomsday people to prepare a little more. It is realistic, to a point. You have to use your imagination to get over some of the points. The author does make you wonder what your own reaction would be if you are in that situation. It does make you want to be sort of prepared, but not really. It seems like the author wants you to be engaged into the battles, but you get tired of the constant fighting and if it was a real life that much fighting would make you anti-social. While it does not have you on the edge of you seat like the first one, but a fan will gladly read it just to find out what happens to the characters they have grown to adore. You will also be looking for the third installment, mostly in hopes that it will draw it all to a conclusion that makes sense.
