Book Description

The debut book by award-winning comedian Francesca Martinez

If you grow up in a world where wrinkles are practically illegal, going bald is cause for a mental breakdown, and women over size zero are encouraged to shoot themselves (immediately), what the hell do you do if you’re, gasp . . . DISABLED? Francesca was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when she was two years old and her parents were gravely told that she would never lead a “normal” life. Whatever body you’re born into, the pressure to be normal is everywhere. But have you ever met a normal person? What do they look like? Where do they live? What do they eat for breakfast? And what the **** does normal mean anyway? This is a very funny, very moving celebration and exploration of learning to be happy with who you are. Neither an autobiography nor a self-help book, it’s a powerful and political call-to-arms that rails against the relentless media bombardment of what is culturally perceived as “normal.” Award-winning wobbly comedian Francesca Martinez tell her funny, personal, and universal story of how she learned to stick two shaky fingers up to the crazy expectations of a world obsessed with being “normal.” THE WOBBLY REVOLUTION STARTS HERE.

Is this book interesting?5
How does compare to other books in the genre?5
Is it easy and enjoyable to read?5
The inspiring thing about this book is how she makes you think about how you respond to people and how you are affected by how they respond to you. It makes you realized that you are you and they are not you so why get upset. It is thought provoking.
The only thing about this book is that it does get very personal at times. It draws you in and makes you consider your own actions, which is not always easy for everyone. It is a heavy book in that you really have to have time to think about what you are reading.
This has to be one of the most honest and heartfelt books that are available on the market. It really does make you feel great about yourself. It makes you realize that it does not matter what others think about you, or what you think about others. Each one of us is on our own journey. We have to learn that even though we have to interact with people every day, we have to define who we are on our own. We have to learn to be happy in our own skin and it is our responsibility to teach our children to realize the same. People are not defined by their disability and we must treat them the same as we would anyone else. A must read that everyone should get and read. It is compelling and realistic. You want to read it from the moment you start it. It is one of those books that you will want to reread over again. It is the perfect book for teenagers or anyone else that is struggling with self-image and who they are. Gift it to your favorite preteen and watch the lights come on as they realize that everyone feels bad about themselves at some point.
